It looks like the success of the Swedish film adaptation of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is opening some big doors for the talent involved. The original Lisbeth Salander, Noomi Rapace, is set to make her Hollywood debut in "Sherlock Holmes 2." Michael Nyqvist, who played journalist Mikael Blomkvist, has joined the upcoming "Mission: Impossible" sequel and now 'Dragon Tattoo' director Niels Arden Oplev is getting in on the action.
Production Weekly has tweeted that Oplev is set to direct an adaptation of the Marcus Sakey thriller "Good People" with Tobey Maguire producing and possibly starring in the film. According to the logline, the film will follow "A couple in debt from fertility treatments steals a stash of cash from their dead tenant's apartment, putting them in jeopardy from criminals and police in search of the money." According to IMDB, the film is being written by Kelly Masterson ("Before The Devil Knows You're Dead").
Post-"Spider-man," Tobey Maguire has been selective about his acting roles because, well, he can be. He appeared in Jim Sheridan's solid "Brothers" last year and has the comedy "The Details" with Elizabeth Banks and Laura Linney in the can. But he has a boatload of choices for potential projects which we ran down earlier this year, and he recently gained heat by circling the chess drama "Pawn Sacrifice" this spring that briefly had David Fincher advising on the project. Maguire will probably see how the project develops and how the script shapes up before committing to star.
