Earlier this summer, it was reported that Russell Crowe was attached to star in a big screen version of the '80s show "The Equalizer" and it now looks like the project is gaining some momentum.
Heat Vision reports that Paul Haggis is in negotiations to write the screenplay, with a possibility of directing. Of course, Haggis and Crowe recently completed work on the upcoming jailbreak thriller "The Next Three Days" and it would seem the two have hit it off. The television series combined elements of the spy and private investigator genres, and followed an aging man (played by Edward Woodward) who offers his services as a 'fixer' free of charge in an attempt to atone for a mysterious past working for an agency referred to only as The Company. It was was noted for the guest stars (Macaulay Culkin, Kevin Spacey, Christian Slater and John Goodman among them) who went on to later fame, as well as a killer theme song by The Police's Stewart Copeland.
There is no word on a director yet but the job is open as possibility for Haggis. The only other project on his plate is "Ranger's Apprentice" which is currently caught in the MGM quagmire and certainly not at the top of their list once they their bankruptcy sorted out.
