Spain has selected Iciar Bollain's "Even the Rain," starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Luis Tosar, and written by Ken Loach's regular Paul Laverty, as their Oscar entry in the Best Foreign Film race.
The film tells the story of a group of filmmakers who head to Bolivia to shoot a film about Christopher Columbus and get caught up in the modern struggle by peasants against their government who plan to force them to pay for water that was previously available for free.
The film premiered last month at TIFF and is headed to the London Film Festival next month. It is slated for release on January 7th in its native Spain but has yet to find domestic distribution. You can watch the trailer for the film below. [THR]
