It's been just over two weeks since the sad, sudden death of film editor Sally Menke at the age of 56 from what appeared to be a heart attack while jogging in the L.A. hills and friends and family are obviously still in mourning (though no cause of death was reported, nor did there appear to be any foul play)Known as Quentin Tarantino's longtime editor and friend (she edited every feature he made) Menke was an integral part of the Tarantino machine and it will be interesting to see who the director works with next as he usually is intensely loyal to his collaborators and employs them time and time again.
This is all a longwinded way of saying, Tarantino friend and occasional collaborator, Wu-Tang Clan abbot The RZA, has dedicated a newly recorded song to Menke called, "Gone" (RZA scored part of "Kill Bill: Volume 1"). The track features James Black, Justin Nokuza and Kobra Khan.
On his Facebook page he says:
I dedicate the song “Gone” to my friend Sally Menke and its my gift to her memory. I feel music is the best gift I can give and I’m giving it away to Wu-Disciples for free in her name. Who ever like the song can send a blessing of positive energy to Sally’s family and her legacy. Peace.The RZA has also decided to give the song away for free and you can download it here. But with all things, life must move on. The Quentin Tarantino Friars Club roast was postponed the week of Menke's death, but now has been rescheduled for December 1 once again in Manhattan. Usually an incredibly raucous and irreverent affair, it will be interesting to see what mood the roast takes if and when Menke's name is mentioned, and we can't see how it can't come up.
