Despite Catherine Hardwicke's musical "Haml3t" with Emile Hirsch falling apart, it appears the director isn't quite done with Shakespeare.
Deadline reports that ABC is developing a television series based on the Bard's most famous play, "Romeo & Juliet." Despite ordering contemporary-set pilots of the familiar story of the Capulets and the Montagues in previous years (none of which were picked up), it looks like the television studio is sticking with the period setting for their latest attempt and have begun talks with Hardwicke to direct the pilot.
The project has a script from Andrea Berloff ("World Trade Center") and will be produced by Todd Garner, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. It will mark a reunion of sorts with Hardwicke and Godfrey and Bowen as the duo produced "Twilight" and "The Nativity Story." No word yet on when ABC want this for but considering Hardwicke is still working on "The Girl With The Red Riding Hood," we presume this is something the television study is eyeing for their 2011 season.
